I-96 cccident victim was recently laid off
Dennis Carver hit by mail truck as he walked on highway
DETROIT – Friends of 55-year-old Dennis Carl said he had recently been laid off, but was on his way to a new job Friday morning when he was struck and killed while walking along Interstate 96 near Warren Avenue.
The crash happened around 3 a.m.
Carver's car had broken down and may have beeen in a minor accident. Police believe the Bloomfield resident was walking on the highway to reach help when he was hit by a woman driving a mail truck.
Friday's accident happened just one day after a 41-year-old firefighter was killed when he was hit by several cars on westbound Interstate 696 near Farmington Road.
Michigan State Police said Daniel Armitage was outside of his SUV on the side of the road when he was hit by at least three cars just before 7 a.m. They said he may have been changing a tire.
