Michigan woman ordered to stop selling insurance out of Detroit office

State officials say Jennifer Ballut is not licensed

DETROIT – A Michigan woman has been ordered to stop selling insurance policies out of her Detroit office because state investigators say she isn't licensed.

The Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation said Wednesday that Jennifer Ballut is accused of selling the policies out of her office at LA Insurance office at 15606 Grand River Avenue. The OFIR said an investigation was launched into Ballut's business after a consumer complaint.

"Selling insurance in this state without a license is illegal," OFIR Commissioner Kevin Clinton said. "Michigan's insurance agents are subject to thorough exam requirements in order to protect consumers and ensure they are sold proper coverage."

If Ballut doesn't comply with OFIR's cease and desist order, she could be fined up to $250,000 or be ordered to pay restitution.

If Michigan consumers were sold coverage by Ballut they are encouraged to contact OFIR toll-free at 877-999-6442.
