Detroit bus service changes take effect Saturday

Changes come amid efforts to cut costs, improve transit system

DETROIT – Detroit says changes to its bus service will take effect April 28 as part of an effort to cut costs and improve the city's problematic public transportation system.

Depending on the route, the time between buses will either increase or decrease. Under an effort called the "415 Plan," the department says buses will run every 15 minutes on the city's four busiest routes during weekday hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Those routes also will see more service after 6 p.m.
