Waterford man dies in crash on Sashabaw Road

Police say victim's SUV crossed center line near Meigs Avenue, collided with box truck

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Waterford Township police said a 37-year-old man was killed Monday night when his SUV slammed into a Ford box truck on Sashabaw Road.


Police said the victim was driving a 2000 Chevy Blazer northbound on Sashabaw, near Meigs Avenue, when he crossed the center line and hit the truck, which was going southbound, head on.

The truck's 36-year-old driver was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.


The 37-year-old SUV driver was pronounced dead at the scene.


Police said it wasn't immediately known if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, but said airbags did deploy in both vehicles and the victims were wearing seat belts.
