Suspected drunk driver hits man sitting in road

Matthew John Thompson killed on County Line Road early Thursday morning

LENOX TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police in Macomb County are investigating a deadly accident that happened Thursday morning.
According to detectives, it happened in Lenox Township on County Line Road between Springborn and 26 Mile Road.
Witnesses told police the male victim was just sitting in the middle of the road.

One driver swerved to avoid hitting the man, but moments later another vehicle struck and killed the victim. The driver of that car then crashed into a nearby ditch.
Police said the driver then left the scene, explaining that he was going to a friend's home in the area. Police arrested the driver a short time later and said the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

The driver has been identified as a 39-year-old from Casco Township. 

The victim has been identified as 30-year-old Matthew John Thompson of Casco Township.

Police said it is still unclear why Thompson was in the road.
