SALEM TOWNSHIP, Mich. – One person was killed when a car crashed Monday on 8 Mile Road at Pontiac Trail in Salem Township.
The car struck a tree and caught fire. Firefighters doused the flames.
Police said 44-year-old Scott Wojan, of Novi, was killed when his 2011 Ford Taurus hit an oak tree. Witnesses told police the car gradually crossed the center line as it traveled west on 8 Mile Road without signs of breaking.
He was trapped inside the car. Witnesses tried to pull his body from the wreck but failed. Firefighters spent nearly 1/2 hour removing him from the wreckage.

Michigan State Police troopers were investigating the crash.
No other injuries were reported.
