Trucks crash, fuel spills onto roads in Sterling Heights

Trucks crash at 18 Mile, Mound roads; fuel spills onto roads in Macomb County

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Firefighters and road crews were working to contain a fuel spill Monday afternoon after trucks crashed at Mound and 18 Mile roads in Sterling Heights.

The roads were expected to be closed for several hours as crews cleaned up the fuel spill. The intersection was reopened Monday evening.

A semi truck jackknifed and struck another semi truck while trying to stop for a red light. The crash punctured jackknifed truck's fuel tank, spilling 100 gallons of diesel fuel on the roads.

No injuries were reported.

Drivers were urged to use 17 Mile Road as an alternative east-west route.
