Wyandotte bridal shop works to save fire-damaged dresses after next-door fire

Dresses damaged by fire in Wyandotte bar next door

WYANDOTTE, Mich. – The fire that heavily damaged the Lions, Tigers and Beers sports bar in Wyandotte also created worry for several brides-to-be.

Bella Donna's Bridal is next door to the bar that burned last weekend. Shop owner Brion Rodgers said damage to the store was minimal.

"It affected the store mostly with smoke and soot and water damage," Rodgers said.

Rodgers contacted John Currier of Classic Cleaners to clean wedding dresses that were affected by the fire. Currier talked about the challenges he faces.

"So there is soot all over this and there is about a foot of water in the basement so we have to restore both.  We have to remove the water out of it and then remove the soot," Currier said.

Currier plans to give the dresses treatment what will not only clean them, but also remove the smell of smoke.

"We have an ozone chamber that actually removes the smoke, so we will ozone them a little bit and then pull them out of there so the smoke will be gone and then we will clean them based on what's best for the material of the dress," Currier said.

Bella Donna Bridal owner Brion Rodgers is confident that most, if not all, of the damaged dresses can be saved.

Rodgers said eleven dresses for weddings this weekend have the highest priority to be ready within 48 hours.
