Adams Road has been shut down between Hamlin Road and River Trail Drive.

There were no immediate reports of injuries. Firefighters were able to douses the flames, and as a precautionary measure were searching the building for anyone who may have been trapped inside.

"Flames were 40 feet into the air," said resident John White. "It's your worst nightmare."

At least one building at the complex was severely damaged by the fire and eight condos overall were damaged.

"We could see flames shooting up and just a tremendous amount of smoke," said resident Fred Straky.

Firefighters and the Oakland County Sheriff's Department helped evacuated three condos damaged by the fire.

Everyone was accounted for.

However, resident Katie Mclaughlin's 9-year-old miniature Daschund, Oscar, was trapped in side the burning building.

"(Firefighters) went inside, and I assume broke down my door, and looked for (Oscar's) crate," she said.

The firefighters saved Oscar. It was an emotional reunion for Mclaughlin.

"This is all that matters," she said. "Tangible items are nothing as long as every person and animal are OK. We'll be OK."

The cause was under investigation.
