Suspect in 1991 Dearborn killing extradited from Florida for arraignment

Kelly Brady charged with murder in Gracielita Flores at community center

DEARBORN, Mich. – A man charged with murder in a 21-year-old cold case in Dearborn has been extradited from Florida to face arraignment in Michigan this week.

Kelly Michael Brady, 45, was found in St. Lucie County, Fla., earlier this year and is now set to be arraigned on first-degree murder and felony murder on Wednesday.

Woman's killing almost goes unsolved

Brady is accused of killing Gracielita Flores on July 12, 1991 at a Dearborn community center in the city's south end.

Flores worked at the center.

Brady allegedly confesses

The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office said Brady walked into the department to tell deputies he was involved in Flores' death.

Staying involved in cold case investigations

Police Chief Ronald Haddad encourages the public to stay involved and remind citizens that cold case investigations often receive new life from the help of tips and information from the public.

"This was a well coordinated effort with the St. Lucie detectives who were instrumental in obtaining the new information," said Haddad.

"We must always return to unsolved cases"

"The horrific facts in this case illustrate the immediate need to invest in cold case reviews. This case came to us on the proverbial silver platter," said Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy. "We must always return to unsolved cases even if they happened decades before."
