Suspect says it was self-defense

DETROIT – A shooting on Detroit's west side left 2 dead and 2 others injured.

This happened early Saturday morning on the 16000 block of Inverness.

Police say a group of men were outside talking when the 36-year-old shooter got upset and got a gun. He then opened fired killing a 23-year-old and a 39-year-old. A 34-year-old and a 19-year-old were also shot.

Around 3:20 a.m., the suspect went to a local Detroit Fire Engine Station, and indicated that he was connected to the shooting that occurred on Inverness. The Detroit Police Department's Communications was notified that a patrol unit was needed to respond to the Fire Station. Due to area patrol units being busy handling high priority runs, no units were dispatched to the location.

The suspect then left the Fire Station and arrived at the 10th Precinct, where he was taken into police custody.

It's reported that the suspect is saying it was self defense.

A wife of 39-year-old victim says that's not the case.

Police are investigating the incident.
