Derrick Miller

Witness in Federal trial

Derrick Miller, a childhood friend and ex-aide to Kwame Kilpatrick was also charged in the federal case but cut a deal with the government and agreed to cooperate in exchange for leniency.

Miller pleaded guilty last year to bribery and tax violations, admitting he took bribes, shook down contractors and delivered a cash bribe to Kilpatrick. He faces up to 10 years in prison. Prosecutors agreed to a shorter sentence depending on his cooperation. Derrick Miller told the court had received bribes from a real estate broker, a real estate company and Karl Kado, a former Cobo Center contractor; and a Detroit Department of Homeland Security vendor, Security Communications Alert Network, for influencing decisions on contracts or land purchases.
