Burglar has gated Taylor community on alert after 2 break-ins

Taylor neighbors are on alert after man caught on camera breaking into homes

TAYLOR, Mich. – A home security camera in Taylor captured an image of a man before a break-in at the home next door.

It may be an important clue in solving two home break-ins within the past 10 days on Muirfield Drive. The homes are in a gated community southwest of Northline and Telegraph roads.

Aaron Speck's cameras caught the man lurking outside his home. The video shows the man going around and prowling homes in the neighborhood. The man made his way into next-door.

"We're hoping with getting the video out someone will recognize this thug," said Speck.

The thief pried his way into Ty Metzger's home. He and his family were asleep while the intruder walked through the house grabbing whatever he could.

"(He) popped out the screen and somehow popped open the window," Metzger said. "Took some money and a watch, a pair of sunglasses."

Metzger had not realized he had been robbed until that afternoon.

"We all got up, went about our routine and didn't notice anything until I went to get my wallet and my cash was gone," he said.

Now the entire neighborhood is on alert. Some homeowners plan to install their own security cameras.

As for Metzger, he's just happy everyone is safe.

"Nothing bad happened to us," he said "We can replace money. We can replace a watch. We can replace sunglasses. But if something would have happened to one of us, obviously, you know, we'd be devastated."

Anyone who may recognize the man in the video is asked to call Taylor police 734-287-6611.
