ROYAL OAK, Mich. – A teen who survived a violent baseball bat beating in his Farmington Hills home last spring is now battling meningitis.
Sal Cipriano has been in rehabilitation since the April 16, 2012, attack.
His mother Rose was also severely beaten. His father Bob died in the attack.
The family's oldest son, Tucker, and a friend stand charged with murder.

Sal's twin brother and younger sister were also in the home but weren't hurt.
Sal, a student at Catholic Central High School, is hospitalized at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.
The school's principal, Fr. John Huber, sent out a letter to parents saying Sal will have surgery on shunts in his head that are being affected by the meningitis. The shunts are from injuries he suffered in the beating.
Huber said Sal goes in and out of sleep but is "mentally aware" and able to answer questions.
"I promised Rose that all of us would pray for Sal, especially right now," Huber wrote.
