Elderly Detroit couple robbed in home

Home invaders rob couple at gunpoint

DETROIT – An elderly Detroit couple was confronted Saturday by gunmen who forced the couple into their home and robbed them at gunpoint.

The husband, in his 80s, was returning to the home at the corner of Pinehurst and Margareta Streets, when three men came up to him from behind. They put a gun to the back of his head and forced him into the house, where they held the husband and his wife at gunpoint.

The invaders then made off with televisions, iPads, bank cards and cash.

Fred Proctor heads the neighborhood watch group.

"It doesn't matter what kind of bars, alarm systems or what you've got going on. It's not safe enough. I don't know what's going on," Proctor said.

Proctor added there have been other crimes in what residents consider a nice neighborhood.

"There's been six or seven houses broken into the last couple of months down the street and  I'm very much concerned. More and more stuff has been happening. Stolen cars, people's cars being ripped off in their driveways and with home invasions, it's unbelievable. It's getting worse and worse," Proctor said.

The home invaders did not physically harm the elderly couple.

The husband, who said he does not own a gun, is now considering applying for a concealed weapons permit.
