3 suspects arrested, lockdown lifted on Canton-area schools

Police say suspects found in home, assault rifle and other weapons recovered

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Canton police said three gunmen were arrested Monday after a search for them prompted the lockdown of four area schools.

Police said the men robbed a Verizon Wireless and were then on the run.

Field, Eriksson, Bentley and Hoben schools were put on lockdown for about an hour.

Lt. Deb Newsome said the suspects were found hiding in the storm cellar of a home on Willard Road -- which is near Sheldon and Cherry Hill.

Newsome said officers recovered an assault rifle and other weapons.

Police said they could also be the same gunmen involved in two 7-Eleven robberies early Monday morning.
