Customers who bring in a can of food or any other non-perishable food item and buy any regular 6-inch Subway sandwich will receive a regular 6-inch sub of equal or lesser price for free.

Feed a Friend originated in Jackson and is now in its 13th year.

Almost 400 Subway locations in the Detroit-Ann Arbor Metro area are participating.

During last year's drive, Subway Restaurants of Lansing said they collected 15,000 pounds of non-perishable food items.

"We are honored to be able to support our local communities and are excited to be expanding this program into a statewide initiative this year," said Lou Dortch, Subway Restaurants of Detroit board member.
