DETROIT – Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA) plans to deliver approximately 5,000 meals to home-bound seniors on Easter Sunday as part of the Holiday Meals on Wheels program.
To complete this mission, the agency needs over 400 volunteers to help pack and deliver the meals to home-bound seniors in Detroit, the Grosse Pointes, Harper Woods, Highland Park and Hamtramck.
"We want to make sure that our seniors have a nutritious dinner on Easter Sunday," said Paul Bridgewater, DAAA President and CEO.
The Easter meal includes: turkey, ham, vegetables, yams, juice, milk, cherry pie and a wheat roll.
The meals are prepared by Valley Services, a national food services company, in their USDA-certified kitchen at 1980 Bagley Street in Detroit. Valley Services has partnered with DAAA for more than 10 years.
In addition to Sunday meal deliveries, volunteers are needed to pack the meals Saturday, March 30 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and Easter Morning, Sunday, March 31 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Valley Services.
DAAA is a private, nonprofit agency that serves persons age 60 and older, adults with disabilities and caregivers.
