No immediate word on victim's identity

DETROIT – Neighbors in a neighborhood on Detroit's west side said they can't believe it.

They watched Thursday morning as police pulled a body out of a shallow grave in the backyard of a home on Grandmount Avenue.

The body is believed to be the remains of a murder victim that was buried four years ago. Sources said homicide investigators were led to the house by a witnesses to the unsolved murder. The case involves a man's shooting death in 2009, which was an apparent revenge killing for another murder that took place in 2006.

No one answered at the home where the body was found. But, Local 4 spoke with a man who said it was his aunt's house -- and he had no idea the body was there.

"With the state of Detroit, I'm not really surprised. But I would be surprised if one of my family members would do something like that," he said.

A positive ID on the body will be made through the medical examiner's office.
