Three projects approved for digital media incentives

New digital media projects awarded funding by state


LANSING – Three film projects, Don Cheto, Series One, and Original Bethlehem, have been announced by the Michigan Film Office, and have been approved for incentives from the state.

Don Cheto - First Cycle was awarded $66,662 on $192,335 of projected in-state expenditures. The project will be completed by six new Michigan hires in addition to employees already working at the Southfield-based Pixo Entertainment. The project is an animated web series based on a popular Spanish language variety show called "El Show de Don Cheto". It will air on the NuevOn YouTube channel.

Pixo entertainment will also be doing animation for Series One, another web series which will animate graphic novels and comics, including "Chakra: The Invincible" and "18 Days". Series One was awarded $86,005 on $249,700 of projected state expenditures. As well as employees of Pixo entertainment working on this project, twenty-one new hires from Michigan will also be included in completing the work. Series One will be available in web, mobile, and broadcast forms.

Original Bethlehem, a documentary project about a new discovery in the country of Israel, was awarded $65,270 on $217,566 of projected in state expenditures. The project is being completed in Holland by existing employees at Grooters Productions.

Seventeen projects have been awarded a total of $32,931,702 on $127,070,848 of approved production expenditures for the year in the 2013 Fiscal Year. Through these projects, 1,321 Michigan hires are expected to be created, which is a full time equivalent of 596 jobs.
