Officers found Smith hiding in a parked van in the backyard of a Pontiac residence.

In 1995, Smith was convicted of one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault in  Illinois. He was named one of Michigan's most wanted sex offenders after failing to change his address, which is required under the Michigan's Sex Offenders Registration Act.

Smith was featured as an absconder earlier this month on Michigan's Most Wanted Sex Offenders website at www.michigan.gov/absconders. He is the third absconder to be arrested this month during a sex offender sweep in Pontiac. The sweep was part of the Secure Cities Partnership, which is providing enhanced law enforcement services to Pontiac, Detroit, Flint, and Saginaw to help decrease crime within the cities.
