Rash of car break-ins hits Royal Oak

Royal Oak police say team of thieves make way across city, break into cars to steal computers, cellphones

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Thieves were busy breaking into cars Wednesday night in Royal Oak -- a dozen cars were hit in one hour.

Royal Oak police believe it is teams of thieves working their way across the city. They are organized and methodical.

Laptop computers and cellphones were the big favorites among items stolen from vehicles. Jason Fuller, like many others, woke up to find a mess in his yard.

"They went into my car and they went through my center console, and they went through my wife's van," said Fuller.

The cars weren't parked on the street but in Fuller's driveway. The crew of thieves doesn't seem to worry so much about being seen.

"I feel really vulnerable and I don't like the feeling that there were robbers walking around my neighborhood," said Tara Taylor, of Royal Oak.
