Madison Heights police: Girl, 9, reports being approached by stranger in red pickup truck

Incident happened Saturday afternoon near 12, Campbell roads

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. – Madison Heights police said a 9-year-old girl on Saturday reported being approached by a man in a pickup who told her to get inside.

Police said the girl was riding her scooter in the area of Huntington and Spoon avenue -- which is near 12 Mile and Campbell roads -- when the man pulled up in a red pickup truck that had a lawn mower in the back.

The girl told police the man motioned for her to come to the truck and said, "Get in the back of my car, kid."

The girl ran home unharmed to tell a family members.

Police said the girl described the man as white, in his 30s, with facial hair (possibly a goatee) and wearing tan shorts, a gray shirt and a dark colored baseball cap.

The girl also told police there was another person in the truck.
