AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – The new Detroit Pistons head coach says he's ready to get down to business to bring back tradition to the team.
"The tradition of the Pistons is something I've known for a long time," Maurice Cheeks said. "I'm looking forward to the challenge and I can't wait to get started."

President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars introduced Cheeks at a press conference Thursday.
"We feel like we got the right guy for what we're trying to do," Dumars said. "We are committed to trying to get back. We're committed to trying to get our team to perform at the highest level. We felt that after a long process, that Maurice gave us the best chance at doing that."
Dumars said the team was drawn to Cheeks' ability to connect with people, infuse confidence with players and keep a steady hand.
Cheeks agreed this week to become the team's next head coach. He is the franchise's fourth coach in six seasons and his job will be to end its four-year postseason drought.
"I'm here to make my way, put my own stamp on this team," Cheeks said. "I have to put my own stamp on this team, make it the way I want it to be."
Cheeks said he wants the players to play unselfishly and be committed.
Cheeks was 284-286 in the regular season and 5-11 in the playoffs as coach of the Philadelphia 76ers and Portland Trail Blazers.
