Charges filed against 12-year-old boy in Southfield bank break-in

Boy accused of smashing way into Bank of America on July 12

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Prosecutors have filed charges against a 12-year-old boy arrested following a break-in at a Southfield bank.

The Oak Park boy is facing charges of breaking and entering, malicious destruction of a building and violating curfew.

He'll be arraigned in Oakland County Circuit Court's juvenile division, but no date has been set.

Southfield police found the boy inside Bank of America branch last Friday morning after an alarm alerted the bank's security company.

A window was broken and the a bicycle also was found near the front door.

Police said the boy had coin rolls and a small amount of cash from the bank.

Police discovered stacks of money on top of a file cabinet when they arrested a boy inside the bank.
