Police said the incident began two blocks away outside of Abdul Berro's gas station, but within the view of his security cameras.
"Someone was driving behind him and I think they were following him and they shot him," said Berro.
Witnesses said they saw people in two cars arguing and then those inside began shooting at each other. There was a chase with shots fired into a car and the person inside was shot and killed. Whoever fired the deadly shots drove off.
The scene of this latest Detroit homicide takes place steps from the abandoned building that was once home to the famous Kronk Gym who produced boxing legends Thomas Hearns and Mickey Goodwin.
Berro tells Local 4 he worries about crime and takes extra steps to protect himself.
"I've got cameras around the building. Someone hide behind that wall, behind that building, I make sure I get quick in the store," said Berro. "I have to lock the door, make sure the door is locked."
Detroit police had no luck looking for security camera footage because much of the area has long since been abandoned.
