Detroit police investigating 2 cases involving women being beaten, left in vacant fields

1 victim in stable condition, other in critical condition

DETROIT – Detroit police say they are now investigating two reported incidents where women were found naked and beaten in vacant fields.

On Friday, a 22-year-old woman was found naked, beaten and with burn marks on her body in a field in the 12800 block of Eaton Street.

Employees at a nearby business saw smoke and heavy fire -- and when they went to check it out, they discovered a van burning and the woman's body nearby.

Witnesses say it appeared the woman was attacked inside the van and then escaped after the vehicle was purposely set on fire.

The woman is now in stable condition.

On Saturday morning, another woman -- a 37 year old -- was found naked, physically and possibly sexually assaulted, and unconscious in a field near Elmira and Iris streets.

She remains in critical condition.

The women were found about 2 miles apart from one another. Police say they're investigating all aspects, including whether the attacks are related

No arrests have been made and police have not released details of any suspects they might have.
