3 Detroit houses on Tyler Street go up in flames

No one hurt, fire chief says blazes are 'suspicious'

DETROIT – Flames ravaged three homes Friday afternoon on Detroit's west side.

A firefighter responding to the scene on Tyler Street near Linwood sent pictures to Local 4.

The houses were completely engulfed, including a car that was parked in a driveway.

Battalion Chief Tracey Thomas said arson investigators did comb the scene and the fires are being called suspicious.

"Someone mentioned to me that a former girlfriend was out here earlier --we don't know when -- and may have mentioned possibly setting this house on fire. But, we don't know," Thomas said.

The fire broke out at about 1 p.m. and likely started on the front porch of one of the houses and spread to the houses on either side of it.

Luckily, only a handful of people were inside two of the houses at the time and managed to get out OK.

The third house was abandoned.
