DETROIT – UPS truck drivers in Detroit report they are being robbed making deliveries in the city.
The latest incident occurred this past Tuesday on Pennington Street on Detroit's west side. A driver got out of his truck, walked to the back, and was confronted by two men with guns. They stole about a dozen packages from the truck.
The driver told a homeowner on the street what happened. That woman, who did not want to be identified, told Local 4 Defenders the incident frightened her.
"It scared the daylights out of me. I'm very concerned," the woman said.
She added the UPS driver told her the robbery is nothing new.
"He wasn't afraid. He said it has happened to him three or four times," the woman said.
In the Pennington Street robbery, one robber was described as a black man, about 18 years old, about 5 feet tall, very thin and clean shaven. The other robber was a black male, about 5 feet 8 inches tall.
Local 4 Defenders have been told there have been at least three UPS drivers reporting to police they were being followed. One mail carrier has put in a call for help, but was not approached by a gunman.
The UPS driver in the Pennington Street robbery was not injured, but shaken up by the incident.
