Detroit police investigate hit-and-run on city's west side

No condition on victim or description of driver

DETROIT – Detroit police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run on the city's west side.

It happened Monday morning. The victim's body was found just feet away from the curb on Schaefer.

The victim, a woman in her 50s, was rushed to a hospital but she died there a short time later.

"All I saw was the police lights flashing through the window and woke me up this morning," said neighbor Evelyn Pritchard.

Pritchard adds that with several street lights out, it's possible that the driver simply didn't see the woman.

"They are non-working. It's pitch dark and people have called in. Nothing," she said.

Still, Pritchard said, the driver would have known they hit someone and should have pulled over.

"That makes me cautions crossing the street," said Pritchard.

Police haven't a description of the driver and car. If you have any information, you're asked to give police a call.
