CEO delivers offer on Wayne County jail site

Memorandum to be discussed this week

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano forwarded a finalized agreement of a memorandum of understanding to Commission Chairman Gary Woronchak last week for distribution to the Wayne County Commission that will be discussed at a public meeting Tuesday.

The proposed purchase of the county's justice properties in Greektown will be discussed at the meeting.

The agreement would allow the county and investment company Rock Ventures 180 days to perform due diligence on the jail site in Wayne County that went more than $100 million over budget and was never finished.

The process will include developing a plan for renovating and building facilities at the State of Michigan's Mound Road site.

"There's a lot of work to be done to make sure Mound Road is feasible for the County's purposes," said Ficano. "At the end of the 180-day period, we expect to have a plan, including tight cost-estimates, to present to the County Commission."

Woronchak said he wants everyone to make sure all the details are covered because it is a big project with a lot of taxpayer money at stake.
