Grosse Pointe Park police launch internal investigation over videos, photos

Videos, photos allegedly taken by officers show harassment of African-American men

GROSSE POINTE PARK, Mich. – An internal police investigation is gaining steam in Grosse Pointe Park after videos allegedly showing racial bias and harassment have surfaced.

In a statement, Police Chief David Hiller said the department was contacted Thursday by an individual claiming to have videos and pictures of an African-American man allegedly taken by an officer within the department.

The videos, first posted by Motor City Muckracker, shows an officer in his cruiser allegedly telling a man to jump around and, on one occasion, sing.

In reviewing the video, it appears one of the men may be mentally challenged.

Hiller said the department does not tolerate unprofessional conduct by officers and a thorough investigation will be conducted.

Grosse Pointe Park shares a border with Detroit.
