Eastbound I-94 in Dearborn re-opens following deadly crash

Police believe alcohol or drugs was factor in overnight crash

DEARBORN, Mich. – A deadly crash left eastbound Interstate 94 in Dearborn closed for several hours early Saturday.

According to Dearborn police, the accident happened about 3 a.m. on eastbound I-94 at Greenfield Road. Police say a van struck  a four-door Chrysler sedan causing it to erupt in flames.

The female driver of the van fled the scene of the accident. The male driver of the Chrysler sedan, whose identity is not known, died as a result of his injuries.

The driver of the van was later apprehended and is currently in Dearborn police custody. Her and her male passenger suffered minor injuries. The drivers name has not been released but she is expected to be charged.

Chief Haddad of the Dearborn Police Department said, "this is a tragic accident and may have been preventable". The Chief offers his condolences to all those involved.

The crash closed the eastbound lanes of I-94 at Greenfield for more than five hours Saturday morning. The accident is still under investigation but police believe that alcohol and or drugs was a factor.
