Troy lights up for holiday season

Troy Kiwanis Foundation light up Big Beaver Corridor on Wednesday

TROY – For the first time ever the trees that line the Big Beaver Corridor will light up for the holidays.

The light display is made possible by a project of the Troy Kiwanis Foundation called Troy Lights of Hope.

This is a community-wide effort and the goal for the first year is to light 50 trees. There are hopes that the display will grow each year. Nearly 200 evergreen trees line the center of Big Beaver throughout the city of Troy.

Installation of the lights began in November and the tress will light up at a special ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at dusk. The same lights that are being used on the trees are available  for businesses and organizations to purchase at a cost of $15 per set.

Proceeds from the sale of lights will benefit the community through scholarships to Troy students and support the Troy Boys and Girls clubs.
