Elderly woman attacked in Grosse Pointe Woods

Police say woman was dragged to pavement, broke her hip

GROSSE POINTE WOODS, Mich. – Grosse Pointe Woods police have released photographs of a man they believe robbed and injured an 83-year-old woman.

The incident happened on Nov. 26th in the parking lot of the CVS at 20460 Mack.

The woman was loading items into her trunk when police said a man driving a maroon Ford Ranger reached through his driver's side window and grabbed her purse. The woman was dragged to the pavement and broke her hip.

The woman's sister, Chris Cattrill, said the victim had parked in a handicapped space because she broke her other hip years ago.

"It's unconscionable that someone would do this to an older person," Cattrill said.

Police said the suspect is a white man in his mid-20s and is 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall with brown hair. He had several days of beard growth.

The man began using the woman's credit cards almost immediately, buying cigarettes at two locations in Harrison Township. That's where security cameras captured his image, and that of his truck. The vehicle has been connected to crimes in two other cities.

The victim underwent surgery on Thanksgiving and is now in a rehabilitation facility.
