Detroit Dog Rescue kicks off holiday season with annual Pet Pantry Project
To help provide dog food assistance to owners in need
DETROIT – Detroit Dog Rescue (DDR), along with event sponsors Pet Supplies Plus and Detroit K-9 Pet Supplies, is hosting its third annual Pet Pantry Project on Saturday, December 7, 2013, from 8 a.m. to noon at Roosevelt Park, located at 2200 Michigan Ave., in Corktown, Detroit.
Detroit residents currently struggling to feed their pets will have an opportunity to receive a free bag of pet food, hay for doghouse bedding and insulation, a Detroit Dog Rescue goodie bag filled with assorted treats, supplies, pet care information and resources for as long as quantities last.
"Sharing the love, community outreach and giving back to Detroiter pet owners unable to feed their dog is what Pet Pantry Project is all about," said Daniel "Hush" Carlisle, co-founder and executive director of Detroit Dog Rescue. "Pet Pantry Project is one of my favorite Detroit Dog Rescue programs because it allows us to give back to the community we serve; to say thank you, and to create awareness among our donors and stakeholders of the many needs of struggling pet owners and the stray and homeless dog problem in Detroit."
Carlisle added that a little over a year ago Detroit Dog Rescue responded to a call for help by animal rescue groups in New York dealing with a pet food shortage after super storm Sandy devastated the coastal areas of Long Island and Staten Island. With little time, lots of hard work and the generosity from our donors, Detroit Dog Rescue secured 17,000 pounds of dog and cat food for rescue and relief efforts. Half of the pet food, four tons, went to New York and the other half went for Pet Pantry Project. Since then a number of donors including Pet Supplies Plus have stepped up to help grow the pet food donation program.
Pet Pantry Project is one of five programs that kick off Detroit Dog Rescue's Dog Days of Winter Campaign, services which educate and promote the important responsibilities of dog ownership.
