Rain, warmer conditions on the way

Above average temperatures on Thursday, near 40 degrees

DETROIT – A warmer and milder day is just what we needed and exactly what we'll get today.

The sky will stay cloudy all day with morning temps in the mid to upper 20s and highs Thursday afternoon near 40 degrees. Without much sun, it may be hard to hit 40 so most of the afternoon will be in the mid to upper 30s.

It's back to or above average temps for the first time in a long time. Scattered rain showers will move in later this evening but well after the evening commute and dinner.

Rain will be the weather headline Friday. The rain/snow line will be parked over the Thumb on Friday. It may be all snow north of I-69 with a wintry mix still into some of our northern counties.

Most of us in Metro Detroit will see rain showers Friday. With enough rain and temps warming to near 40 degrees Thursday and Friday, we will start to see some of our snow melt away.

Another major development is Sunday. We may see some light snow showers on Saturday but rain will likely come back heavy on Sunday. It all depends on the placement of a storm that hasn't even developed yet so we have to wait and see. Right now, forecast indications are heavy rain across SE Michigan to end the weekend.

And, if you're looking for a White Christmas… it looks like more snow is coming back on Christmas Day. Stay tuned for that.
