1 dead in St Clair County accident
Pickup swerved to avoid parked truck in westbound lane
ST. CLAIR, Mich. – A 22-year old man from Avoca was killed in a roadside accident Saturday morning near the corner of Bordman and Riley Center roads in Riley Township.
Before the accident, a 20-year old woman from Port Huron lost control of her car and slid into the ditch at the intersection. She called her friend, an owner of a truck, to help pull her out. The friend positioned his truck facing eastbound in the westbound lane of traffic and left his headlights on while hooking his truck up to the woman's car.
While he was down in the ditch trying to hook the chain to the car, a 25-year old man driving a pickup truck in the westbound lane saw the headlights and thought the vehicle was moving down the wrong lane of traffic. Blinded by the lights, he swerved into the ditch to avoid the head-on collision and struck the man in the ditch.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither the woman nor the driver of the pickup truck were injured. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
