Suspected drunken driver to be charged in crash that killed St. Clair woman
Van slams into car at intersection of Groesbeck Highway, Cass Avenue
MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – The Macomb County Sheriff's Office says charges are coming for a suspected drunk driver who killed a 64-year-old woman on Saturday in Mount Clemens.
Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the victim, a St. Clair resident, was killed instantly when her PT Cruiser was hit by a Ford conversion van at the intersection of Groesbeck Highway and Cass Avenue.
The van's 39-year-old driver, a Clinton Township man, was taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital.
Wickersham said witnesses reported seeing the van blow through a red light before colliding with the PT Cruiser.
Wickersham said deputies were able to conclude that the van driver had been drinking before the crash and a blood test was taken. The results were not immediately released.
Wickersham said the driver has two prior convictions on operating while intoxicated charges.
Charges against the van driver are expected to be announced on Tuesday.
