Forecast: Some snow to start the weekend in metro Detroit

Still watching potential snowstorm next week

DETROIT – It will become cloudy with some very light snow possible as a cold front swings through after 2 a.m.

Lows will be in the upper 20s. Light southwest wind shifting to the northwest late Friday night.

Light snow Saturday morning ends by lunchtime, with well under an inch of total accumulation (best chance to see a half-inch or more is across Lenawee and Monroe Counties). We may even see a peek of sun by late afternoon. Highs in the mid 30s. Northwest wind at 5 to 10 mph.

I'll keep you updated (don't forget that you can follow me on Twitter at @PaulGrossLocal4).

Mostly sunny skies to start our Sunday, then becoming partly cloudy. Highs in the low 30s. Partly cloudy Sunday night (more clouds later than earlier). Lows in the mid 20s.

Partly cloudy and warmer on Monday with highs in the low to mid 40s, then partly to mostly cloudy on Tuesday. Highs in the upper 30s.

Becoming windy with a chance of snow Tuesday night. Lows in the low 20s. I have the same uncertainty as yesterday regarding the Tuesday night/Wednesday morning winter storm. Some computer models keep it just far enough south to keep most of the snow south of our state line, but other models bring accumulating snow into the metro area (you folks north of M-59 have much less to worry about).

The upper level disturbance that will eventually generate this storm is still over the Pacific, and we don't have weather balloon launching stations over the ocean. Consequently, the models won't really get a better handle on this until Monday, when that disturbance crosses the west coast.

Well below normal temps then return for Wednesday and Thursday, with highs only in the 20s, and lows well down into the teens.
