Suspect stole handgun from Chesterfield Dunham's Sports

CHESTERFIELD, Mich. – Police need help finding the man who stole a "Springfield" semi-automatic 9MM handgun from the Dunham's Sporting Goods store on Gratiot Avenue last month.

Kevin Gilbert, a 48-year old black man from Eastpointe, Michigan, has been identified as the suspect responsible for the theft.

Police said the man stole the gun on Feb. 21 while employees were busy away from the counter.

Surveillance video shows the suspect walking into the firearms section of the store and reaching into the display counter from the back to take the gun. He hid the gun in the front of his jacket and left the store.

There is a three-count arrest warrant for Gilbert on charges of larceny of a firearm (five-year felony), first degree retail fraud (five-year felony), and felony firearm (two-year felony/mandatory).

Police don't know where Gilbert is, but he should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information should call the Chesterfield Police Department at 586-949-2322 or Crime Stoppers a 1-800-SPEAK-UP
