Western Michigan has appeared in the tournament just twice before 2004 -- in 1998 when they were knocked out by Stanford in the Round of 32 and in 1976 when they went to the Sweet Sixteen and lost to Marquette.
The Wolverines went all the way to the championship game last year where they fell to Louisville. In all, the Wolverines have made the tournament 16 times. They have been to the Final Four 7 times and the championship game 6 times, with one national title in 1989. Michigan's 1992 Final Four and all 1993, 1996 and 1998 games have been forfeited due to NCAA sanctions
Michigan State Spartans
The Spartans have appeared in 26 NCAA basketball tournaments. They have two national championships -- 1979 and 2000. Last year, they were knocked out in the Sweet Sixteen by Duke. The year before that, the Spartans also went to the Sweet Sixteen but fell to Louisville.
