Kia concept boosts brand's performance image

New GT4 Stinger concept car debuts in Detroit

DETROIT – Kia showed off a dramatic and aggressive concept car Monday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The car is the GT4 Stinger and everything about it screams performance. Under the hood of the low and wide body is a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine good for a hefty 315 horsepower.

Inside, the car is more about performance than luxury. While there's no carpeting, there is plenty of aluminum and the pillars around the windshield are transparent to give the driver a better view of what's ahead.

Kia executives say they have no plans to bring the car to production, but it was a fun styling exercise.

"It's a totally selfish design. The design team at KCDA is full of gearheads and enthusiasts, and the GT4 Stinger is the perfect car for that kind of crowd," said Tom Kearns, the chief designer at Kia Design Center America.
