Raise a glass for Detroit, dubbed "Bar City of the Year"

"Esquire" teamed up with acclaimed cocktail historian to determine epithet

DETROIT – Detroit has acquired many nicknames over the years, from Gene Simmons wailing "Detroit Rock City" to auto enthusiasts dubbing it the "Motor City." However, the city's got something else for folks to get excited about: plenty of great bars.

Detroit has been given the epithet "Bar City of the Year", by "Esquire" magazine.

Each year, the magazine partners with acclaimed cocktail historian, David Wondrich. This year, he dubbed Detroit his new favorite drinking town. He also highlighted some local bars: "PJ's Lager House," "Cliff Bell's," "Old Miami, "and several others.

The complete list of America's best bars will be featured in the magazine's June-July issue.
