2nd spectacular weekend in a row?
Could it be?
DETROIT – Before getting to the forecast, I thought I'd share with you some of the extraordinary rain totals over the past two days, as well as for the month of May.
Follow me on Twitter: @PaulGrossLocal4
The central part of the metro Detroit area got hit the worst Tuesday and Wednesday this week, and some of the two-day totals include:
Grosse Pointe Farms 2.88"
Keep in mind that average rainfall for the ENTIRE month of May is 3.38", so some of you got nearly an entire month's worth of rain in just two days! Speaking of a month's worth of rain, here are some of the May rain totals I've been able to compile for you today:
Ann Arbor 5.11"
Farmington Hills 5.20"
Flint 7.25" (4th all-time wettest May for Flint)
Grosse Pointe Farms 5.84"
Port Huron 4.47"
Romulus (Metro Airport) 4.87"
White Lake 4.42"
Yale (The Bologna Capital of the World) 2.97"
Alright, we've had enough rain, so now we need a nice stretch of sunshine, which I'm happy to deliver.
On to the forecast:
Mostly clear tonight which, combined with light wind and dry air, creates ideal radiational cooling conditions -- a very effective night for our daytime heat to radiate upward and cool us off quickly. Lows in the low 50s for those of you closer to Detroit (otherwise known as the Urban Heat Island), but mid to upper 40s out away from the city.
Mostly sunny and pleasant on Friday -- perfect weather for Free Prix Day as things really shift into high gear for the Detroit Grand Prix, and also for the Wheel of Fortune auditions at Chene Park. Come on downtown for a real chance to be a contestant on Wheel of Fortune! Everything you need to know is here. Highs in the upper 70s (except for those of you near Lake Huron, where you'll hang in the mid to upper 60s). North-northeast wind at 5 to 10 mph.
Mostly clear Friday night, with lows once again in the upper 40s to low 50s.
Then get ready for a gorgeous weekend, starting with sunny skies on Saturday, with highs in the upper 70s to near 80. Clear Saturday night, with lows in the low to mid 50s.
Mostly sunny on Sunday...perhaps becoming partly cloudy by mid-to-late afternoon. Highs in the low to mid 80s. Partly cloudy Sunday night with a stray shower possible. Lows in the mid 60s.
Just as we get to the point where we'll want a little rain, things turns active, with periodic showers and thunderstorms from Monday through Wednesday morning. The weather pattern (as projected by the computer models) is a little scuzzy -- small-scale features aloft that generate batches of showers and storms are not handled well this far in advance, so I cannot get specific about any timing yet. Naturally, I'll keep you updated.
