Forecast: Spectacular Father's Day weekend!
Next week looks stormy
DETROIT – The deck of stratocumulus clouds that covered many of us this afternoon will break up this evening, and skies will become clear.
Wind will also subside. These two factors combined with the very dry air overhead makes for outstanding radiational cooling -- meaning that daytime heat escapes upward very efficiently. Since dewpoint temperatures are in the 40s right now (the dewpoint is related to humidity -- the drier the air, the bigger the separation between the temperature and dewpoint), it appears that all of us will drop into the 40s by morning, with the coldest readings, as usual, outside of Detroit's Urban Heat Island.
By the way, the temperature never drops below the dewpoint (it's impossible), so this is what prevents us from falling even farther into the 30s overnight.

After starting our Saturday on the chilly side (you'll need the sweater if you have an early tee time), sunny skies should warm us up to around 73 degrees. However, a light east wind will develop by afternoon which, as you folks on the eastside know all too well, keeps you cooler -- perhaps only in the upper 60s Saturday. Clear skies prevail Saturday night, with lows in the low 50s.
Father's Day looks fantastic! Mostly sunny skies overall should become partly cloudy by late afternoon, but that won't limit temperatures, which will rise at least into the low 80s. It's going to become a bit breezy, though, with a south wind at 10 to 20 mph.
Partly cloudy with a shower or thundershower possible Sunday night. Lows in the mid 60s.
The rest of this forecast is pretty boring, because it's not going to change much. It won't rain all day every day, but the risk for batches of showers and thunderstorms will be with us through Wednesday and, possibly even Thursday. Highs generally in the low to mid 80s early in the week, with overnight lows in the mid 60s. Highs then cool into the upper 70s to near 80 by the end of the week.
