DETROIT – Before some Detroit homeowners even know what's happening, a crew from the Water and Sewerage Department is on its way to successfully shut off the water.

Local 4 Defenders cameras were there Tuesday as the water department hit several homes on Rutland Street on the city's west side.

Dozens of people are having their water shut off. The water department says more than 1/2 who are cut off end up paying at least a portion of the bill within 24 hours.
