2 injured in Lapeer after car crashes into ditch, explodes

Alcohol, speed, lack of seat belts contributed to incident

30-year-old passenger Ryan Wheeler, also of Attica, was ejected during the accident. Fox got out of the car before it erupted and caught fire. The fire was eventually put out by the Attica Township Fire Department.

Both men were taken to McLaren Hospital in Lapeer. Fox is listed in serious condition and Wheeler is in serious condition with life threatening injuries.

Police say alcohol and excessive speed played a role in the accident. The men were not wearing seat belts, which contributed to their injuries.

The road was closed for about 2 1/2 hours following the incident.

The incident is under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Jason Parks at 810-245-1381 or jparks@lapeercounty.org
