Bashara trial: More emotional testimony

DETROIT – Steven Tibaudo is the one-time friend of Bob Bashara and Joe Gentz.

Tibaudo is the appliance store owner who wore a wire to capture Bashara's plan to put a hit on Gentz. He said Bashara reached out to him to do some dirty work.

"'I got this Grosse Pointe tenant who's making my life miserable. You know anybody that can take care of her?'" Tibaudo said.

In court Monday we listened to the tapes capturing Bob and Steve working out the Gentz deal. However, on those tapes Tibaudo could hear his dog, Mr. Doodles. His dog has since died and it caused Tibaudo to become very emotional. The court had to break.

In the afternoon, Jane Bashara's mother, Lorraine Engelbrecht, took the stand.

"He said they had an open marriage, and that upset me," she said.

Jane's mother was clearly nervous. Her testimony about this horrible crime and her relationship with Bob captured the attention of the jury.

"I said, when Jane said that he could go out and do anything he wanted, anything to make him happy, I said, 'Oh so she allowed slaves and dungeons?" He said, 'Well, she didn't know anything about that,'" said Engelbrecht.

Special Section: Jane Bashara murder investigation

Jane Bashara was found strangled on Jan. 25, 2012 inside her SUV that was parked in a Detroit alley, a few miles from the family's Grosse Pointe Park home.

Gentz, who worked as a handyman for Bob Bashara, has pleaded guilty to killing her, but saying he did so at her husband's behest.

Bob Bashara is already in prison after being convicted of trying to hire a hit man to kill Gentz.

Gentz will not testify.
