DETROIT – A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy on Christmas Day, authorities said.
Dwayne Sharper Jr., 19, has been charged with manslaughter, felony firearm and possession of a stolen firearm in connection with 16-year-old Bernard Walker's death.
Wayne County prosecutors said it is alleged Sharper and Walker were in a house around 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the 4100 block of Virginia Park when Sharper shot Walker while handling a revolver that discharged, striking the teen in the head.
Walker was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died the following day.
Sharper is expected to be arraigned in the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice before Judge Cynthia Hathaway at 9 a.m. Monday.
